The team at Thornbury Craft is creating these experiences for their community, fostering a sense of belonging and connection. They’re not just putting on events, they’re building a family of locals who care about and cherish these shared memories, ones where local artisans showcase their craft—vintage finds, fresh flowers, irresistible Caesars, and cookies fresh out of the oven. Yes, these fleeting summer moments are what make the season so special.
I had the pleasure of immersing myself in one of these experiences recently. As I arrived, I savored my favorite Road Apples cider and chatted with local vendors. There’s something special about the South Georgian Bay community—a shared understanding that we’re all friends, united by common values and the simple joy of being in the same place at the same time. I wandered through the market, exploring a diverse range of vendors, each passionately sharing their unique craft. Thornbury Craft deeply supports this pride and passion.
Speaking with both seasoned and new vendors, one thing was clear: they’re grateful for events like this. Many shared that it’s one of the most enjoyable opportunities to showcase their products or services. “Everyone is enjoying themselves, which makes it so easy to be here and work,” one vendor remarked. From fresh start-ups like Cart and Stem or Mill Street Vintage, to established community staples like Bishop’s Consignment and The Caesar Bar, the event offers an inclusive platform for everyone. Thornbury Craft continues to diversify its partnerships, welcoming a wide array of vendors, patrons, and staff.
This particular market was extra special, with all donations for entry going to Love of Brian Farm Sanctuary, a safe haven for farm animals in Meaford, ON. Thornbury Craft consistently finds ways to support and create inclusive environments for everyone. Jamie, the former events coordinator, transitioned into a new role at the sanctuary, making it a fitting choice as the charity for this market. It’s clear they look out for their own, extending that care to the broader community as well.
Derek, the in-house manager, proudly shares how Thornbury Craft has become a fabric of the community. He notes that the connection is mutual; just as they embrace the community, the community welcomes them time and again.
This was their second night market, and the turnout was incredible—a steady flow of people enjoying the evening. Thornbury Craft continues to hire based on community spirit and personality to curate the best customer experience. According to Derek, this focus on positivity and fun is vital, both for events like this and in day-to-day operations. He wants Thornbury Craft to be a place where staff want to be, and it shows—they stick around to enjoy the market they’ve helped create, a true testament to that commitment.
