Join us on April 22 at 10:00 am ET for the first-ever live exploration of one of the Great Lakes’ most visually mesmerizing and least-seen underwater environments: the warm, crystal-clear waters surrounding the Bruce Power nuclear generating station on Lake Huron—one of the largest power plants on Earth.

Piloting advanced underwater robots will be Freshwater Explorers Zach Melnick and Yvonne Drebert. They will be joined by renowned fish biologist Dr. Nicholas Mandrak and Bruce Power scientist Dr. Cherie-Lee Fietsch, for this special livestream that offers extraordinary access to a thriving underwater “Fish City,” where more than a dozen species gather in a habitat shaped by human influence.

Expect close encounters with ancient bowfin—unchanged since the age of dinosaurs—alongside bigmouth buffalo, the Great Lakes’ largest sucker fish, known to live more than a century. Schools of curious smallmouth bass may be preparing to spawn, while giant walleye, freshwater drum, catfish, and rainbow trout move through the scene.

Dominating it all are vast numbers of gizzard shad—a vegetarian species that can appear in the millions, drawn to the plant’s warm outflow. And in this dynamic ecosystem, surprises are always possible: sea lamprey, salmon, diving birds, invasive carp, or even beaver may make an appearance.

For Zach and Yvonne, Fish City is one of their favourite places to explore—an unlikely freshwater world that feels more like a Mediterranean reef than a lake. Here, anything can happen.

Expect the unexpected on Hidden Below LIVE: Fish City. You may never see the Great Lakes the same way again!
