Lead Like Her : Barbara Zimmerman

In honour of International Women’s Day, we’re presenting “Lead Like Her” a series of informative and interesting presentations about Women who’ve lead non-traditional roles in their careers. Join us and enjoy!

In this event, we welcome Dr. Barbara Zimmerman, Environmental Scientist and Researcher.
Dr. Barbara Lewis Zimmerman, O.C. is a Canadian tropical ecologist and long-time director of the Kayapo Project, where she has partnered with the Kayapo Nation in Brazil’s southeastern Amazon to develop sustainable, conservation-based enterprises that protect biodiversity and Indigenous territorial sovereignty. Her decades of work mentoring conservationists, defending Indigenous rights, and helping safeguard one of the world’s last large rainforest blocks earned her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2023 for her contributions to conservation science and advocacy for Indigenous peoples in preserving the Amazon rainforest.
