Sweetwater: Castle in the Sky/ Where Voices Meet

September 20 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
  • « Foraging Wild Edibles – Autumn
  • Sweetwater Late Night Jazz »

This moving evening of music will explore the play of music with and without words, weaving together strings and song. This concert will peak your imagination in those same ways that clouds create beautiful figures into the sky… one moment a castle, the next an animal, or a mystical image. We wander through the clouds as we drift through our thoughts. The evening starts with a folky suite by Gustav Holst, and then we will perform a contemporary composition titled “Entr’acte” by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Caroline Shaw. After this, we bring out Rachel Fenlon to sing songs for string quartet and voice, written by Shaw and another brilliant contemporary composer, Gabriel Kahane. We end our Saturday evening concert with a beloved serenade to send us out into the evening by Edward Elgar. No intermission for this concert, as many of you will likely head to the Harmony center to hear Cuban jazz piano legend, Hilario Duran.
