SUMMARY:Ship of Fools: The Doors tribute band

Tony’s powerful vocals replicate Jim’s smooth baritone as well as his drunken bark. Chelsea brings out Robbie’s intricate guitar melodies while Darcy captures both the jazz and the classical sides of Ray’s keyboard playing. All of this is held aloft by the engine room of Anthony and Dan in the rhythm section. \nNote for note and cut for cut\, this is as close as you can get to seeing The Doors in their prime.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Albert Chiardandini
DESCRIPTION:About the Artist\nAlbert Chiarandini was born on September 30\, 1915\, in the northern Italy city of Udine (Friuli-Venezia Giulia)\, immigrating to Toronto\, Canada\, in 1932 at the age of 17. While supporting his family as a construction worker\, he took night classes at the Ontario College of Art\, studying under Franklin Carmichael (member of the Group of Seven)\, Frederick Challener\, John William Beatty and John Alfsen. \nAlbert is best known for his intimate portraits\, portraying the homeless of Allans Gardens\, Toronto and the 1960’s hippie scene of Yorkville\, Toronto\, as well as his stunning landscapes\, capturing the once-rural areas of Richmond Hill\, Auora\, Newmarket and many other well-known neighborhoods.  In 2004\, a large collection Albert’s paintings were donated to the Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery in Sutton West. This major body of work is on permanent display and has been included in the book “The Group of Seven Project”\, which cites Albert as “The Unknown Group of Seven Member.” In 2024\, TLN Originals produced a documentary (Albert Chiarandini: The Eighth Member of the Group of Seven) exploring his life and legacy. \nAlbert Chiarandini passed away on December 18\, 2007\, in his 93rd year. Over the course of his lifetime\, he produced more than 3\,000 works of art. \nGrand Opening\nAll are welcome to attend the grand opening\, occurring August 30\, 2025\, from 2-4pm\, in celebration of this remarkable artist. We are delighted to have in attendance Rudy Chiarandini\, Albert’s son\, whose partnership with The Gallery has helped bring this exhibition to life. The event is free to attend\, and no registration is required.

SUMMARY:Noon Hour Series: Sebastian Ostertag (cello)
DESCRIPTION:This year will be the 30th anniversary of the annual Noon Hour Series – an inclusive weekly summer celebration of music in our community. For most of the years\, Georgian Shores United Church at 4th Ave and 10th Street East in Owen Sound has opened its doors each Wednesday afternoon in July and August to welcome this inclusive\, multi-generational concert series. \nOriginally organized and developed by Joachim Ostertag with support from his family\, this past two years Kelda Mikalson\, a local singer and music teacher\, has coordinated the series. \nThe organizers of the Noon Hour Series and Georgian Shores United Church believe that music is for sharing. \n“If you have been shy to attend indoor concerts in the past because they seem so formal and full of mysterious rules\, we’ve got you. Come and relax in the cool\, eat your lunch\, move to the music\, cheer when you enjoy a passage\, whatever feels good.” \nChildren are encouraged to attend. Whether you have a penny or a 50 to contribute we’d love to see you there at any or all of the concerts.

SUMMARY:Monarch Tagging Workshop with OSFN
DESCRIPTION:How is it that monarch butterflies migrate 4\,000 km to a place they’ve never been before? Why do we still need Citizen Scientists to assist in a North American monarch tagging initiative? How can they fly with a tiny “license plate” stuck to one wing? And how can you help monarchs in our Bruce Grey area? These questions and your questions will be addressed in the afternoon tagging workshop. We hope to net and tag migrating monarchs as part of Monarch Watch Citizen Science research\, so wear your running shoes and bring your insect nets (some will be provided).
