SUMMARY:Meditation in the Midst of Life - Workshop and Lecture Series
DESCRIPTION:There is much myth and misinformation about what meditation is and isn’t\, who can do it\, why you do it and how you do it. \nThis four-part lecture series will guide you in different meditation techniques; explore different approaches and understandings of meditation across different cultures; tackle the inevitable challenges that pop up as you begin to meditate; and discuss the objectives\, benefits and transformation that will occur with meditation practice. \nTheodore Tsaousidis is the founder and teacher of the Snow Lion Meditation Community (formerly Toronto Mindfulness Community & Endless Ground Owen Sound). Authorized to teach in 2006\, his teaching approach is a comprehensive and practical integration of secular mindfulness alongside Buddhist classes. He draws from his extensive training in Tibetan Vajrayana and Zen Buddhism\, combined with traditional healing wisdoms. \nHe offers classes\, workshops and retreats in the Toronto and Owen Sound areas. The core of his work is simple and direct: to offer practical\, everyday tools to help individuals realize their inner worth and successfully navigate life’s inevitable emotional and physical valleys for the benefit of all beings.

SUMMARY:Bayside Astronomy
DESCRIPTION:SATURDAY\, JULY 18\, 2026 AT 09:30 PM\nLion’s Head Marina at the Peninsula Observation Deck (POD) in Lion’s Head\, ON\, Canada \nBAYSIDE ASTRONOMY\nBayside Astronomy is a free program that seeks to educate the public on the wonders of astronomy\, the benefits of dark sky lighting and the need to reduce light pollution. \nCome here for program updates\, cancellations and more. \nOur celestial tours start the Friday of Canada Day all the way to the end weekend of Labour Day (June 26 – August 30). Bayside Astronomy will be running five days a week during this time. Our main location is the POD by the Lion’s Head Marina; it will be active on Fridays and Saturdays. \nSessions begin after sunset and run 60-75 minutes. \nWe will (as long as it’s not too cloudy!) show you the rings of Saturn\, the stripes of Jupiter’s chaotic atmosphere\, and the sights of distant galaxies\, nebulae\, and star clusters! We have a lot to show\, and only so much time to do it\, so we hope to see you there this summer! \nWhere – Lion’s Head Marina at the Peninsula Observation Deck (POD) \nParking – free after 8pm. The lot can fill up quickly\, but there is street parking a short walk from the Marina as well. \nFREE & open to everyone – whether you’re a seasoned stargazer or just curious about what’s up there\, come join us for a free evening under the stars across the beautiful Bruce Peninsula. \n  \nA note about LIGHT – \nAlthough visibility is important for safety\, white light ruins your night vision for up to 45 minutes. Here are some tips for preserving your ability to see the most stars: \n\n         Avoid looking at your phone. If available\, put it on “night mode”\, and on stargazing apps\, see if there is a “red light” option.\n         Shield your eyes from oncoming headlights or similar bright lights.\n         Avoid using your flashlight near the telescopes or during the programming; this will disrupt the vision of those around you as well.\n         If you have a head lamp\, it may have a “red light” mode – this light will not disrupt your eyes!

Two voices\, piano and guitar\, the hits of late\, and hits from the Classic era!!! \nJohn Hume’s first performances were at High School coffee houses in Toronto. During his university days he made his living playing in a Pub owned by the Irish Rovers. Following school he spent 2 years playing Lounges in Ontario and Quebec. He slowly worked his way into the local music scene playing with the many great musicians that live in the area. \nJon Zaslow is a singer/songwriter from Thornbury\, formerly of Toronto\, and London\, Ontario.  His early musical career focused on guitar playing\, playing fulltime\, on the road\, paying dues and playing on others’ albums\, jingles and the like. SUMMARY:Porchside Festival - Sophie Lukacs
DESCRIPTION:Sophie Lukacs\n\n\n\n\nJuly 24 & 25\n\n\n\n\nSomewhere Inn\n\n\n\n\n128 St. Paul St.\, Collingwood\n\n\n\n\nA truly unique artist blending Hungarian\, classical\, and West African traditions\, Sophie Lukacs performs on the kora with breathtaking skill and artistry. Her award-winning music transcends cultures and creates a deeply moving live experience. This is a very special opportunity to hear this instrument being played and we encourage you to embrace this opportunity. This location has a bar and washrooms. \nAbout Sophie Lukacs \nBorn in Budapest\, raised in Montreal\, Sophie Lukacs came to the kora — the West African 21-string harp — through a chance encounter in Burkina Faso and a fateful moment hearing master Malang Jobarteh play in a New York subway. What followed was a seven-year pilgrimage to Mali\, studying with kora legend Toumani Diabaté\, and earning her place in a tradition not easily entered as an outsider. \nHer music weaves the West African Mandingue tradition with contemporary songwriting\, sung in four languages — English\, French\, Hungarian\, and Bambara. Her debut album Bamako\, featuring Habib Koité\, won Global Roots Album of the Year at the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards\, bringing her to stages across Canada\, the US\, West Africa\, and Europe.

DESCRIPTION:Join two of Canada’s most exciting bands at Heartwood Hall on July 24 for an unforgettable night of live original music.  Praised by Exclaim! magazine as one of Canada’s Top 5 Emerging Artists in February 2026\, METEOR HEIST is a Toronto-based indie-pop band that has quickly become a standout in the Canadian music scene.  Since forming in 2022\, the band has performed on acclaimed stages including Beaches Jazz Festival\, Summerfolk\, NXNE\, Stewart Park Festival\, It’s Your Festival\, and the Danforth Music Hall\, where they opened for Stars.  After the release of their 2nd EP in January 2026\, their momentum continues to build with upcoming performances at the Hamilton Fringe Festival\, Grand Bend Sunset Sounds\, POP Montreal\, and Endless Summer Festival in Kitchener\, where they’ll open for the legendary Mother Mother.   \nFresh off lead singer Finbar Wall’s 10-show tour across Canada’s West Coast\, THE COMMUNE returns to the stage for their first full-band performance of the summer.  The Commune has established itself as one of Hamilton’s most exciting live acts\, blending infectious folk-Americana with high-energy performances. The band has appeared on stages at Sound of Music\, Pembina River Nights\, Convergence Festival\, Summerfolk\, Festival of Friends\, and more.  They’ve also shared the stage with an impressive lineup of artists\, opening for Babyjake\, Union Duke\, Trooper\, and Canadian rock legends Junkhouse\, joining them for nearly a dozen shows over the past three years.   \nThis is not a show you want to miss!

SUMMARY:Meditation in the Midst of Crisis - Workshop and Lecture Series
