SUMMARY:Madison Violet
DESCRIPTION:Madison Violet is a Canadian Juno-nominated female musical duo\, consisting of Lisa MacIsaac and Brenley MacEachern. \n2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Madison Violet. A rare and impressive feat that they are both proud of and grateful for. \nThe pair\, who both have roots in rural Cape Breton\, came together musically in the late 1990s. Influenced by their maritime heritage\, Brenley and Lisa began creating music together that had roots firmly planted in their past\, but with contemporary and modern elements generously overlaid. Categorizing Madison Violet’s music is an impossible task\, in that one can hear elements of folk\, singer-songwriter\, pop\, indie\, bluegrass\, and country flawlessly interwoven throughout. \nMacIsaac and MacEachern are exceptional story tellers\, skilled multi-instrumentalists\, and together\, perfect harmonists. Their voices soar\, perfectly complimenting each other\, as they sing lyrics that will both mend and break your heart. \nMacIsaac and MacEachern have released more than 10 albums together. Their latest record “eleven” was self-recorded and produced\, ranking MacIssac and MacEachern among the less than 2.1% of female-identifying music producers in the industry. \n“Eleven” is considered their most candid album to date\, filled with deeply personal stories of love and loss. \nThe musicians have received dozens of notable accolades for their work\, including a JUNO nomination for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year. They have brought home a Canadian Folk Music Award for Best Vocal Group Album of the Year\, have reached the top 5 on the Canadian iTunes download charts\, amassed over one million streams on Spotify\, and have placed on CBC’s Top 20 multiple times throughout their career. \nTheir music is consistently played across Canada and throughout the world\, and the internationally acclaimed artists are no strangers to receiving glowing reviews for both their studio work\, and live performances. \nMacIsaac and MacEachern currently live in and around Toronto\, Ontario\, tour internationally\, identify as members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community\, and are fervent advocates for social justice. \nProudly presented by Meaford Hall

SUMMARY:Our Roots Are Showing : Gracie Jet
DESCRIPTION:Spring Concert Series at Grey Roots\nOur Roots Are Showing returns to the Thomas Wheildon Theatre at Grey Roots Museum and Archives this spring. The unique concert series presents an exciting mix of well-known local performers and up-and-comers sharing their original takes on life in Grey-Bruce and the world beyond.  \nOur Roots Are Showing features one performance a month on a Thursday evening from March to June 2025: each for the unbeatable price of $20. Start time for all performances is 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. \n  \nGracie Jet is a showstopper. Ever since she was a little girl\, she longed to perform.  She gave herself the handle “Gracie Jet” because in her own young words\, “people need to be able to chant my name.” Now\, Jet is an electric performer you can’t take your eyes off. She has played iconic Canadian venues like The Rivoli and The Monarch Tavern and a sold-out single release show at Heartwood Hall. That single\, Sway\, has gone on to garner international attention from press and radio.  \nAs a songwriter is perhaps where Jet shines her brightest. Like a good friend\, her music is there for you when you need it most. Jet’s songs include soaring ballads that tug at the heartstrings and anthemic rock songs that ignite the spirit. Her catalogue is a walk through her memories and experiences\, each song its own unique time\, place\, and emotion. Her work is emotionally transparent in a very refreshing way. She bravely gives all of herself to her songs. They’re intimate\, refined and\, above all\, passionate.  \n  \nWith the release of her debut album Survive in 2025\, Jet has no plans of slowing down. Grey Roots is thrilled to present rising star Gracie Jet in a relaxed\, acoustic setting that highlights her vocal and songwriting talents.

SUMMARY:"The Old Lady Went Along" Senior Migration in the 1800s
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre \nHosted by the Bruce County Genealogical Society \nWe all have 19th century examples in our family histories where parents\, children and grandparents migrated to\, or within\, Canada. What was the impact on the aged folk who left their families\, and their long-time friends and neighbours? Or the physical stresses from the trip itself and the life they found in the wilderness? Or the impact on the older generation who could not\, or would not\, make the trip? This talk will tell the stories of Dianne Brydon’s aging ancestors: those who travelled to Canada from Ireland and Scotland; those who moved again for new opportunities\, having grown old in Canada; and those who were left behind. \nRegister HERE: https://bit.ly/2025-05-12-DianneBrydon-BCGS \nOr by emailing BCGSWebinars@gmail.com \n  \nAbout the Speaker \nDianne Brydon has used skills learned from her Masters in Historical Geography to research her various family histories. She likes nothing more than travelling to archives in the UK\, Canada\, and the US. There\, she sneezed through bundles of dusty documents. The gems she finds help to piece together her ancestors’ colourful stories. \nIn 2017\, Dianne and her father published their family history. The book is titled “The Stalwart Brydons: From Scotland to Galt to Portage La Prairie”. Since then\, she has written articles and given talks to family history/genealogy/local history groups in both Scotland and Canada. She is currently President of the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa.
