Wander the forest and riverside\, enjoying locally curated foods in a forest to table style setting as prepared by award winning and celebrated East Coast Indigenous Chef Ray Bear. After the progressive dining experience\, follow the path through the gardens for a remarkable show: Rueben and the Dark with the Bullhorn Singers was born through an unexpected turn of events. It was 2019 at the Calgary Stampede when the renowned indie-folk outfit\, Reuben and the Dark and traditional powwow champions\, Bullhorn Singers merged for a live performance that left the crowd breathless. This impromptu and unlikely union of culture\, life experience and sound in front of thousands was electric\, and the start of a deep friendship and artistic collaboration between the two groups as they continue to write\, record\, headline festival stages and tour North America. This dynamic artist collective – now formally known as Reuben And The Dark and Bullhorn Singers – are unintentionally creating history in Canada; breaking down cultural boundaries through art to represent the healing power of music.

The unique concert series presents an exciting mix of well-known local performers and up-and-comers sharing their original takes on life in Grey-Bruce and the world beyond.  \nOur Roots Are Showing features one performance a month on a Thursday evening from March to June 2025: each for the unbeatable price of $20. Start time for all performances is 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. \nSummerfolk\, the iconic festival on Owen Sound’s waterfront\, turns 50 this year. To celebrate\, Grey Roots is hosting a retrospective exhibit and devoting the final concert in our series to a special showcase of some of the young talent selected to perform at this summer’s historic event. We can’t tell you who the performers will be until after the final selection in April\, but we can promise they will stand out from their peers and put a smile on your face. A guild has a few different definitions\, but we will focus on creating a patch of a variety of plants that support each other and a central or key plant\, in this case a fruit tree or shrub. Our designs will aim to emulate the patterns of healthy habitats creating an ecologically balanced\, and resilient ecosystem. \nThe goal of this workshop is to teach you how to design patches of diverse\, interrelated plants that are able to maintain themselves without our constant oversight and intervention. \nPart 2: Tour & Design\, Sat. June 1\, 2025\, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. \nWorkshop will take place partially outdoors\, so please dress for the weather. \n\nTour will focus on demonstration fruit tree guilds\, what worked and what didn’t work.
