SUMMARY:Biblio Arts: book arts and print fair!
DESCRIPTION:BIBLIOARTS 2026\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBiblioArts is an annual teaching and marketplace event with the aim to support Grey-Bruce artists and fundraise for the Georgian Bay School for the Arts (GB Arts). \n\nBiblioArts is a celebration of the “Book Arts” held the weekend of Victoria Day. \n\nFor 2026\, our third annual BiblioArts will happen from Thursday to Sunday\, May 14-17. \n“The Book Arts” describes a wide range of art forms including bookbinding\, printmaking\, letterpress printing\, box-making\, paper-making\, paper marbling\, broadsides\, card-making\, zines and journals\, and so much more; it’s an exciting field and we’re happy to bring it all together for this event. \n \nThursday and Friday we’ll be featuring special guest artist Jacquie Sullivan who will lead a two-day intensive workshop on Multi-Block Relief Printing focusing on the connection between the Japanese process of Mokuhanga woodcuts and the Western techniques of multi-block linocut printmaking. In 2025 Jacquie received a Canada Council grant to study mokuhanga (Japanese water-based woodblock printmaking) at the Mokuhanga Innovation Laboratory (MI-Lab) in Echizen\, Japan. You won’t want to miss this excellent opportunity to learn from a significant artist in this field \nSaturday features a Book Arts Marketplace from 9:30am-3pm including printmaking and book artists\, specialty vendors of papers\, materials\, and tools for all your book and printmaking needs. The Goods Kitchen Cafe\, located in the entrance to GB Arts\, will also be open from 9am-4pm. \n \nOn Sunday morning\, four featured workshops will run with sessions of Water Marbling\, Silk Screen printing\, and Letterpress Printing. Tickets can be found at gbarts.ca or at the links below.  \n\nOn Sunday afternoon\, the public is welcome to join BIG PRINTS!—We’re renting a steamroller and going BIG! We will be printing large-scale relief prints on 1st Ave\, behind GB Arts\, beside the beautiful boardwalk along the Sydenham River. This is a free outdoor art event running from noon until 3pm.  \nThis is all taking place in the large creative studios of GB Arts\, located on the main street in the heart of downtown Owen Sound.

SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening: Inspiring Nature\, Inspired Techno - Biomimicry
DESCRIPTION:Members See it First!   \nThursday\, May 14 | 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM   \nPLUS: Snacks\, crafts\, and entertainment!   \nPlease RSVP online here\, or by calling (519) 797-2080.  \nJoin us on opening night and test your knowledge on inspiring nature and how it has impacted technology with our quiz show kicking off at 5:30 PM in the Bruce Power theatre!  \nChannel your inner engineer…. and create an invention of your own inspired by an animal or plant!   \nMake your own bee hotel\, enjoy some sliders and pizza and leave with a sweet treat.  \nCome see what all the buzz is about!  \nAfter all\, nature IS the best inventor. \n— \nAbout the Exhibit \nInspiring Nature\, Inspired Techno – Biomimicry and Transport is a unique exhibition that allows visitors to explore up to thirty natural specimens and discover how aspects of nature have been applied to create innovative technological objects.   \nThe word comes from “bios” for life and “mimesis” for imitation. The methodology relies on the observation of shapes\, processes\, and systems to imitate nature’s genius and offer innovative solutions.   \n\nDo you want to see how a kingfisher’s beak inspired engineers to make trains quieter?  \n\n\nHow did a prickly thistle lead to an invention we use every day?  \n\n\nHow are seashells helping us develop stronger windows for our homes?  \n\nThe exhibition combines themes of innovation and nature to inspire visitors and create a sense of wonder about the natural world and inspiration for how natural designs can inform future development.  \nThis traveling exhibition comes from the Musée de l’ingéniosité J. Armand Bombardier (QC). \nProudly presented by Ontario Power Generation; Media partner 101.7 the One.  \nThe exhibition is a production of the Musée de l’ingéniosité J. Armand Bombardier in collaboration with the Musée de la nature et des sciences de Sherbrooke\, the Granby  \nZoo and the Institut de biomimétisme. This project was made possible thanks to the contribution of the Government of Canada.

SUMMARY:Folkpunk Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Making Woman\, Sydney Riley\, and James Harris\, Thursday May 14th\, 8pm\, at Parkwood restaurant for an evening of heavily charged folk-punk originals that will challenge (or affirm) your expectations of how society can be different from the status quo.  \n\nMaking Woman pushes boundaries. Expect to hear everything from soft\, sweet\, silly\, and jazz inspired songs to raw and authentic acoustic-punk-metal. This self-described-over-hyphenated-solo-punk will deliver a purr-formance on an acoustic guitar with a beautiful kick drum.\n\nHeart\, soul\, and rock & roll: Josie-nominated singer-songwriter Sydney Riley is embracing the darker side of life. Hailing from Wasaga Beach\, Ontario\, Sydney’s thundering vocals have been described as a balance\nbetween Stevie Nicks and Joan Jett.\n\nJames Harris is a folk punk singer/songwriter centred around Owen Sound\, Ontario. Inspired by artists like Woody Guthrie\, Pete Seeger\, Laura Jane Grace\, Tomas Kalnocky: James’ mix of high energy anthems and soulful sounds will draw you in while his lyrical hooks will catch you and make you think.
